Writing
It opens, and you write
No dashboard to cross, no template to pick, no loading spinner. Type a slash for headings, lists, to do lists, quotes, tables, images, dividers and code blocks that highlight themselves as you type. Paste from Word or Google Docs and their formatting is left at the door.
Your work saves itself. It keeps a copy in your browser in case the tab dies, and if the same document changed somewhere else while yours was open, it tells you instead of quietly painting over one of you.

Publishing
Any document can be a page. Any folder can be a site.
Turn on publishing and the document gets a real web address you can send to anybody. Turn on a folder and it becomes a small site of its own: navigation down the side or across the top, a homepage you choose, page addresses you can rename without renaming the document, and a table of contents on every page.
The live version holds still while you keep working. Nothing goes out until you press Publish, and the panel tells you exactly which pages are about to become readable before it does it.
Publishing is never metered. No view caps, no page caps, no upgrade prompt to make something public. Every published page carries a small line back to Docmode, and on Pro that line comes off.
Your own addressPro
It is your site, so put it at your address
Add your domain in settings and Docmode shows you the one DNS record to add, written in the shape your registrar's own form asks for. Certificates are handled. A Check again button tells you whether the record has spread yet, rather than leaving you refreshing and guessing.
Once it points here, your pages sit at your address with no docmode.app in the URL, your logo stands in place of the site title, and your favicon sits in the browser tab. Nothing on the page says where it was made.

Private pagesPro
Not everything should be open to the whole internet
Put a password on the whole site and it all sits behind one gate. Put it on a section and every page inside is covered, with the page names hidden until somebody is through. Put it on a single page and the rest of the site stays public.
Locked pages are kept out of search engines and out of the sitemap. A reader who unlocks once is done with every lock on that site, and the moment you change or remove the password, everyone who was in is out.
A password is a gate, not encryption. We say that on the page itself rather than letting the word “protected” do more work than it should.
AI
Help with the writing, not instead of it
Select a passage and ask for it to be improved, shortened, expanded or corrected. Ask what a reader would still stumble on and get back the acronyms you used before explaining them and the background nobody was given. Ask for a title and a summary. Ask a code block to explain itself in plain English.
Every suggestion arrives tinted, in place, with a keep or discard bar. Nothing is applied behind your back, and undo gets you your own sentence back rather than unwinding half the document.

A version is saved every ten minutes of editing, and you can name one yourself the moment before you change your mind. Pick any of them to see exactly what changed, block by block, then put it back. Last 30 days on Free, unlimited on Pro.
Nothing is ever deleted for being outside a plan. A version older than the window stays where it is and comes back the moment the plan changes.
Sharing and comments
Work on it with other people
Share a document or a whole folder by email, as a viewer, a commenter or an editor. Comments sit in the margin beside the words they are about, thread one reply deep, and never show up on a published page or in an export. Mention somebody and they hear about it in the app and by email, separately.
No live cursors chasing each other, and none planned. If somebody else is editing, you are told and the document is read only until they stop, which is honest rather than clever.

Security
Security is not an upsell
Documents are private by default. Permission checks run inside the database itself rather than in whichever screen you happen to be looking at, so a page that forgets to hide something still cannot fetch it. Two factor sign in is on every plan, free included, with backup codes if you lose the phone.
You get an email when a browser the account has never used signs in, and when your password changes. Data sits in the EU.
A published page is public on purpose. A site password is a gate, not encryption. The product is not end to end encrypted, because the AI features have to read what you wrote, and we would rather write that down than let you assume otherwise.

Take any document out as plain Markdown, or all of them at once in a zip. Leaving is as easy as arriving, which is the point.
