Guide
Folders and search
Two folders and a keyboard shortcut are most of what you need, however much you write.
Folders
- Choose New folder in the sidebar and give it a name.
- The menu beside a folder holds everything you can do to it: Add document, Add folder, Share, Publish as site, Rename and Delete.
- Folders can sit inside folders, as deep as you find useful.
Folders do two jobs beyond tidiness. Sharing one shares everything in it, which saves granting access a document at a time, and publishing one turns it into a small website. Sharing and Sites cover both.
Moving things around
Drag a document onto a folder to move it there, and drag it back out to the list below to take it out again. Folders can be dragged into other folders the same way.
The quickest way to anything
Ctrl K, or Cmd K on a Mac, opens a box in the middle of the screen. The search box in the sidebar opens the same thing.
Type and it searches your documents by name. It also runs commands, so the same box will make a new document, take you Home or to the documents shared with you, open settings, print the document you are in, and switch between light, dark and matching your device.
- Press Ctrl K from anywhere, including inside a document.
- Start typing the name of a document, or of a command.
- Move with the arrow keys and press Enter. Esc closes it again.
Renaming and deleting
The menu beside a document offers Rename and Delete. Renaming by hand pins the name, so it stops following the first line of the page.
Deleting a folder does not delete what is in it. Documents and folders inside move up to the level above, so nothing is lost by tidying up a folder you no longer want.
Deleting a document is the one that removes something. It stops appearing everywhere, including for anyone you had shared it with, so you are asked to confirm.
